A whole Weekend of Cycling!

The Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Classic, hosted by Sun City, presents a whole weekend of cycling activities for the 20th anniversary edition of the popular event.

The Road Classic offers distances of 103km and 70km and takes place on Sunday, 20 August. The MTB Classic fills the Saturday slot (19 August) over the weekend cycling festival.

The road race route is fast and flat and because it takes place on a Sunday traffic volumes are low and the absence of the big mine trucks in the 2016 edition was evident.

The organisation has been in contact with local mines affecting the R510 (the Thabazimbi/Northam provincial road) as well as provincial traffic and have done regular Sunday morning surveys between 07h00 and 11h00.

There is a dramatic decrease in traffic on Sunday mornings compared to Saturday mornings and the mine trucks, which are now significantly less due to the downsizing that has taken place in the mining industry over the past years, only run from 11h00.

Weekend traffic returning from Thabazimbi picks up from 12h00 and the race is through this section and onto the R556 (for the long distance) by 10h30.

Entries are now open for the event on www.asgevents.co.za.

The Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Road Classic, hosted by Sun City is a premier seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour and the event has to date raised in excess of R3.6 Million for the Cancer Association of South Africa.

Come and join us for a fun filled, action packed weekend with loads of prizes up for grabs. Gain free access to Sun City and the Valley of Waves on the race days.

Cyclists receive a Valley of Waves voucher at registration in their Race Pack.

Free Entrance for vehicles into the Sun City Resort before 06h30 on Sunday and 07h30 on Saturday.

MTB start and finish

The MTB Start/Finish is in the parking lot at the Sky Train Station. The Start is the left of the Station with the finish on the right at the MVP Parking area.

Road Race start and finish

The Road Race starts in the Exit Road from Sun City in front to the MAIN ENTRANCE on the right (as you look at the chute from outside the venue). The finish remains as is outside the Sun City Main Gate.

The casino resort offers convenient and safe parking as well as a variety of family entertainment options once the racing is done, including free entry into the Valley of Waves.

Although there is a new temporary conference facility erected in the main parking lot, Sun City has created ample overflow parking areas to deal with the influx of cyclists.

The new conference facility will this year host registration on Friday afternoon as well as the race village during the course of the weekend as well as prize giving.
